Critique

My nine year old son, Jonathan came in my room today and said the following about one of my favorite children's books by Shel Silverstein:

Jonathan: I just read "The Giving Tree" and I did not think it was sad at all.

Me: You didn't find it just a little sad, kind of bittersweet?

Jonathan: Nope-not at all. But then I am heartless so that isn't surprising.

Me: You are not heartless, you just aren't very sentimental...it is how you are wired.

Jonathan: So are you gonna pray for me a heart, like the tin man?

If you don't have a kid, you should get one.
